The divorce is moving at a snail’s pace. Some quick divorce sites claim all can be done in a few weeks when both parties agree. Well, we do agree and we both want it over with; our finances are separate and we have agreed custody; we want to move on so what’s the catch?
It took six weeks for the court to send him the papers. All they had to do was give it a case number and mail him one of the three copies of the form I sent them. Surely that takes six weeks… *insert eyeroll emoji*
Of course he called me the day he received them and asked for help with the single page form he had to fill in (because answering yes or no as to whether he agrees to the divorce and confirming his confirming his contact information is hard). *insert double eyeroll emoji*
I went straight to his and got it sorted. I posted it back myself on special delivery. The court would get it the next day. It’s been a month and I still haven’t received my copy of his agreement so I can proceed with the Decree Nisi request. Bummer!
I was getting restless and decided to investigate. I have learned that many UK divorce courts are working on a backlog. It’s been very frustrating for people wanting closure, like me. Sigh.
It’s a pain in the arse, honestly, but it will happen. In the meantime, I’m still enjoying single life. My friend P has been a blessing. It’s cool to have someone who wants to hang out and have fun just like you. My love life is still non-existent but it will also happen. Soon… *insert fingers crossed emoji*
It will come. And it will be the best day ever for you when it does. In the meantime, at least it’s on the pile waiting and you’ve done what you can to speed it along. You’ll get there…xx

Yep, it takes ages. Though my Decree Absolute was pretty quick coming through when it was applied for. I was disappointed with the paper. It felt a bit cheap and thin to say itβs such an important document π

I am curious, how long does it take for the UK to process a marriage? Trying to remember how long it took here in the US. My guess is that it took some time, but we were too “busy” to notice. Ahhh….being too “busy”.
