I have been nominated by my beautiful soul sister Rhapsody Bohème to do her newly created 3 Day Music Video Challenge. It’s a good change since we’ve both done the originally set-up 3 Day, 3 Quote Challenge recently (click here for Day1, Day 2 and Day 3).
My first song is called Tracks of My Tears, written and originally performed by Smokey Robinson. I am a fan of Motown music, even though it has been diluted and beaten to a pulp by numerous singing talent shows.
So it may come as a surprise that my favourite version of this song actually comes from one of these talent shows, more specifically American Idol, performed by the incredibly talented Adam Lambert.
The song talks about someone who wears a smile as a mask, the life of the party in everybody’s eyes, but if you looked close enough you’d be able to see the tracks on his cheeks left by the tears, that were still coming out fast and hard in secret.
“Outside, I’m masquerading. Inside, my hope is fading,” the lyrics say and that represents exactly how I feel. Full lyrics here.
Why do I love Adam’s version so much? Because while Smokey’s is upbeat, still keeping the mask on, Adam’s is pure pain and heartbreak. It’s a quiet suffering from someone who is still hurting.
My smile is my make-up.
The rules made simple: 3 days, link to whoever nominated you, 1 video per day, explain why it means something to you and nominate a fellow blogger. No need to accept the challenge.
My nomination is for Henry @ Love, Hate, Love – dear blogger and music lover.
I didn’t see this until now. I will accept and post something that meets the criteria. Fun!
